Mobile File Access Using a Persona Carrier
نویسندگان
چکیده
The need to have a mobile user’s computing persona or environment move along with him or her must be satisfied if mobile computing is to become attractive to the general user. One way to do this without depending on a universal network infrastructure is to have the user carry his or her persona on a persona carrier, a device that stays with its owner at all times. Based on this idea, we have proposed a design that allows a user to access the distributed file system he or she normally uses even at isolated computers. We have built a prototype implementation that uses Coda as the distributed file system, and we find that it performs as well as a connected Coda client.

Realizing Mobile Computing Personae
The proliferation of computers has made it possible to do computer-related tasks in many places. At each place a user works, he or she runs applications, specifies preferences for them, and is allowed to access resources and files according to local rules. These elements, together with the nameto-resource mappings, can be referred to as a user’s computing persona. Currently, an implicit persona...
متن کاملA File System for Mobile Computing
The recent proliferation of portable computers, the advent of personal digital assistants (PDAs) and continuing advances in computer networking all point to a future in which mobility of both users and computing system elements will be standard. However, these developments also invalidate many of the assumptions made by current system software, which has been built for stationary systems and us...
متن کاملThe Persona Concept: A Consumer-Centered Identity Model
This paper describes ongoing research and development aimed at creating a trustworthy software-based model called the Persona Concept. The “Persona Architecture” uses “web services” to implement this model and is designed to provide the consumer direct control over their identity, credentials and private data. Credentials are expressed as third-party assertions encapsulated in certificates usin...
متن کاملFEW Phone File System
Data availability is an important issue in mobile computing environments. Both distributed data management systems and mobile storage devices, such as USB-flash drives, are used to allow users ubiquitous access to their data, but both solutions have their shortcomings. In this paper, we present the FEW Phone File System, a system designed to allow users to access their personal data independent...
متن کاملChameleon: Multi-Persona Binary Compatibility for Mobile Devices
Mobile devices are vertically integrated systems that are powerful, useful platforms, but unfortunately limit user choice and lock users and developers into a particular mobile ecosystem, such as iOS or Android. We present Chameleon, a multi-persona binary compatibility architecture that allows mobile device users to run applications built for different mobile ecosystems together on the same sm...
